Researchers at the Queensland Institute of Medical Sciences in Australia have extracted two pineapple quinone enzyme molecules from pineapple leaves, which have the function of preventing tumor proliferation and are particularly effective in suppressing the growth of breast, lung, colon, ovarian tumors, and melanoma.
Teresine Minot, a research fellow at the Queensland Institute of Medical Sciences, said that the discovery has enormous scientific potential. “The functions of these two molecules are different from any other drugs currently in use and represent a new approach to cancer treatment.â€
