Some fruit growers fertilize fruit trees with unscientific methods and improper fertilization. Most fertilization sites are close to the trunk, which not only reduces the utilization of fertilizer, but also damages the roots of fruit trees, and affects rooting and flowering of fruit trees, resulting in reduced yields.
The absorption of fertilizers by fruit trees is mainly accomplished by root hairs in roots. Fertilizing in root hairs can increase the utilization of fertilizers and increase production and income. Under normal circumstances, horizontal roots range from 1 to 1.5 times the diameter of the fruit tree, but most of them are concentrated at the outer edge of the canopy projection and are vertically distributed. The tree species, soil quality, and management level are different. The roots of apple, peach, plum and other fruit trees generally have a shallow distribution of about 40 centimeters; pears, grapes, and other fruit trees have a deep root distribution of about 80 centimeters. Fertilization should be applied at or near the edge of the canopy projection. Roots with deep distribution of fruit trees need to be properly deepened, and vice versa.
Organic fertilizers are slowly decomposed, but the fertilizer supply period is longer and can be applied in depth; fertilizers have large mobility and can be applied lightly. For densely planted orchards, they can be applied deep in the rows and shallowly applied between the plants. It is best not to hurt or injure large roots, so that the fertilizer efficiency can be fully utilized to increase the utilization rate of fertilizers and increase production and income.
