Scientists have developed a new type of color-changing tattoo ink. It contains biosensors that respond to changes in the body, such as blood glucose levels and sodium concentrations. Scientists hope to turn the human skin surface into a "human-computer interaction display." Such technology may become an innovative way of health monitoring.
The project, called "DermalAbyss," was developed by MIT in collaboration with Harvard Medical School, which combines fluid interface and biotechnology. Currently, they have developed three different inks that vary in color with tissue fluids. The tissue fluid is filled between cells, accounting for about 16% of the body's body weight.
Among them, the first ink can measure blood sugar concentration. As the blood sugar level rises, the ink changes from blue to brown. For people with diabetes, this blood sugar sensing tattoo makes life a lot easier, and they no longer need to rely on a needle blood test to monitor blood sugar levels. The second ink is able to detect the pH value - from powder to purple. The third ink is capable of detecting the sodium concentration - when the salt concentration is raised, it will be bright green under ultraviolet light.
